What are organic fertilizers? Organic Fertilizers are derived from plant, animal or mineral resources, and combined with organic matter. Why use organic over synthetic fertilizers? Natural and Organic Fertilizers help strengthen soil health. Chemical fertilizers are known to deplete soil microorganisms and leach into waterways, creating large 'dead zones' where water no longer contains oxygen for marine life. Organic fertilizers come in three forms: dry, water-soluble powder and liquid.

Down To Earth's Alfalfa Meal 2-0-1 is an exceptional source of plant-derived nutrients. It is highly recommended for roses as well as all other vegetables, herbs, flowers and shrubs. DTE Alfalfa Meal 2-0-1 is derived from sun-cured, non-genetically modified alfalfa that is freshly milled to preserve the highest plant nutrient value.

For existing roses, apply 1/2-1 cup per plant in early spring and thoroughly mix into the soil surface. For new roses, add 1/2-1 cup per hole, mix thoroughly into soil and water in well. Repeat application when blooms appear and again in Fall at half the recommended amount.

To prepare new vegetable gardens and flower beds, apply 5-10 lbs per 100 square feet and thoroughly mix into the top 3" of soil. For new transplants, add 1-2 tbsp per hole, mix into soil and water in well. To feed established plants, side dress ½ cup once each month during the growing season to promote plant growth.

For new container plantings, add 2-4 tbsp per gallon of soil and mix thoroughly OR add 5 lbs per cubic yard. For established container plants, lightly mix 1-2 tbsp per gallon into the soil surface once each month during the growing season.

Down To Earth Alfalfa Meal is a 0.5 lb pound box of fertilizer with a 2-0-1 formula and is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production. Alfalfa Meal is a rich source of trace elements and natural growth stimulants and an excellent soil conditioner that accelerates growth and promotes larger, more plentiful blooms. It is sun-cured and freshly milled to preserve the highest plant nutrient value and is recommended for all flowering shrubs, especially roses, as well as all other vegetables, herbs and flowers. This Northwest grown fertilizer is also useful as a compost bio-activator due to its high organic matter content and ideal Carbon-to-Nitrogen ratio.
